Public Notice

The rules of procedure and the fees and costs related to applications for Private Bills are set out in the Standing Orders of the Legislative Assembly. Copies of the Standing Orders, and the guide “Procedures for Applying for Private Legislation”, may be obtained from the Legislative Assembly’s Internet site at http://www.ontla.on.ca or from:

Applicants should note that consideration of applications for Private Bills that are received after the first day of September in any calendar year may be postponed until the first regular Session in the next following calendar year.

Notice of Application for Special Legislation

Notice Is Hereby Given that, on behalf of the City of Ottawa (“City”), application will be made to the Legislative Assembly of the Province of �������� for an Act in respect of the matter set out below.

To enable the City to pass by-laws requiring that all or any class of shops in the City as defined in subsection (1) of Section 214 of the Municipal Act close and remain closed on the 11^th day of November of each year until 12:30 o’clock in the afternoon.

Shop is defined in subsection 214 (1) of the Municipal Act R.S.O 1990, Chap. M. 45, as amended, to mean “a building or part of a building, booth, stall or place where goods are exposed or offered for sale by retail, and barbers’ shops, beauty parlours, shoe repair shops, shoe shine shops, and hat cleaning and blocking businesses, but does not include a place where the only trade or business carried on is that of a licensed hotel or tavern, victualling house or refreshment house.”

A copy of the draft bill is available in the office of the City Clerk, Ottawa City Hall, 110 Laurier Avenue West, Ottawa.

The Standing Committee on Regulations and Private Bills will consider the application. Any person who has an interest in the application and who wishes to make submissions, for or against the application, to the Standing Committee on Regulations and Private Bills should notify, in writing, the Clerk of the Legislative Assembly, Legislative Building, Queen’s Park, Toronto, ��������, M7A 1A2.
