Environmental assessment
Browning-Ferris Industries Limited submitted an environmental assessment in January, 1997 and is seeking approval for the expansion of the existing Ridge Landfill site. The landfill is located on Part of Lots 13 to 16, Concession 4, west of Communication Road in the Township of Harwich, County of Kent. It is estimated that approximately 680,000 tonnes per year of non-hazardous solid waste will be accepted from Southern °ÄÃÅÓÀÀû over a 20 year period. The total capacity of the expanded landfill is approximately 13.6 million tonnes. The notice of completion of review was issued on November 12, 1997 with the public comment period ending on December 15, 1997. The undertaking was approved with conditions on June 24, 1998.
Designation
On June 6, 1997, the Minister, with the concurrence of Cabinet, designated by °ÄÃÅÓÀÀû Regulation 222/97 the proposed Ridge Landfill Site. The site is located approximately five kilometres southwest of the Town of Blenheim, Township of Harwich, and County of Kent.
