Declaration Order

On March 1, 2006 Cabinet approved a Declaration Order under the Environmental Assessment Act allowing Laflèche Environmental Inc. to increase their annual fill rate at the Eastern °ÄÃÅÓÀÀû Waste Handling Facility from 200,000 to 300,000 tonnes of waste without requiring them to complete an environmental assessment.

The proposal for the Declaration Order was posted on the Environmental Registry from November 8, 2006 to December 8, 2006. The Ministry received five public comments during the comment period. The main issues raised by the public included concern about receiving waste from Toronto, Quebec and New York State, the effect that the proposal would have on air quality, agricultural lands and water quality. Laflèche Environmental Inc. provided responses that addressed the concerns raised by the public submissions. All of these comments received were considered by the Minister before a decision was made.
