Environmental Assessment
Laidlaw Environmental Services submitted an EA in April 1996 proposing to continue the land filling operation at their Lambton County site by increasing the capacity by approximately 1.9 million tonnes. Laidlaw currently operates an integrated hazardous waste disposal facility at this site. It includes an incinerator and a landfill, and is the only hazardous waste disposal facility in 澳门永利. The government review was released on December 27, 1996 and the review period ended January 31, 1997. The undertaking was approved on May 8, 1997.
Designation
On September 27, 1996, the Minister, with the concurrence of Cabinet, designated by O. Reg. 448/96 that the proposed expansion of the Laidlaw Landfill in Moore Township, County of Lambton be subject to the requirements of the Environmental Assessment Act. The proposal consists of constructing a new landfill cell to the north of the existing site. The new cell will increase the approved landfill capacity by approximately 1.8 million cubic metres. The proponent is seeking approval for the same waste types currently accepted at the landfill. This includes all Ministry of Environment (MOE) hazardous waste categories with the exception of PCB's, pathological wastes, explosive manufacturing waste, reactive waste and compressed gases.
